Social Media

Social networking: Bringing people together

Social networking technologies—also called social media—include everything from forums and message boards to blogs, wikis and podcasts. They’re defined by their ability to encourage collaboration and enable active communication: allowing users to post opinions, ask questions, share thoughts and interact with others.

Making social media work for you

We’re expert at planning and deploying site-specific social networking technologies that support your organizational objectives. The scope of our projects ranges from augmenting current sites to building new sites specifically around the social networking concept.

What’s the difference? Social media versus “Web 2.0”

We are often asked if we have experience with “Web 2.0” sites. Well we do, but we don’t.

Social media refers to the use of web technologies to allow users to contribute and share content online —and to the technologies themselves.

"Web 2.0" was coined to describe the ways the Internet has become a platform for services instead of a universe of static information sites. At RealDecoy, we tend not to use the term “Web 2.0”, agreeing with one of the web’s founders, Tim Berners-Lee, that all technologies associated with “Web 2.0” have in fact been around since the origins of the Internet.

Our capabilities

We use social media technologies designed to attract site visitors who want to share experiences, offer knowledge and connect with colleagues and friends:

  • Blogs
  • Wikis
  • Facebook applications
  • User tagging and folksonomies (tag clouds, etc.)

The technologies we use

We use all of the following to create and implement blogs, discussion forums, user profile tools and other social networking applications:

  • WordPress customization
  • SocialNet
  • Facebook Application Development
  • Discussion Forum Integration
  • User Management
