ipMonitor, now owned by SolarWinds, is an Ottawa company that provided fast, affordable monitoring of network devices, servers and applications. RealDecoy worked with ipMonitor over the course of two years. We redesigned its website twice and improved both the retention and conversion of qualified visitors into sales.

RealDecoy undertook two major website revisions and several small modifications to ipMonitor’s site.

THE CHALLENGE

Metrics to improve on

ipMonitor had significant problems with its website: it offered too much information and the content was poorly positioned on pages. Web analytics revealed that, out of 100 visitors, only 22 people stayed on the site longer than 30 seconds. Just one visitor of every 323 actually bought the software on-line.

ipMonitor needed a new, professional design focused on its core capabilities and delivering targeted content.

OUR SOLUTION

Building a solid foundation

RealDecoy’s initial update to ipMonitor’s website was an improvement in many ways. The content was focused more on ipMonitor’s core capabilities and had a stronger call to action than the previous version. Visitor retention increased by 59 percent and one visitor out of every 141 made a purchase.

Coming back for more

A year later, ipMonitor asked RealDecoy to make further changes to its site. The company wanted to align its online presence with its new branding. It also wanted to introduce a two-minute Flash tour of its offering and a more detailed 15-minute HTML exploration of the same. Both would serve as compelling calls to action. It worked. One out of every 40 visitors to the site was purchasing a product.

The new site also improved ipMonitor’s search engine optimization and the site started generating great results in organic searches.

ipMonitor’s success, driven in large part by its new website, was key to SolarWinds’ eventual takeover of the company.
