Java Web Application Developer

Our capabilities are twofold: we architect, plan and build a wide range of web sites and web-related projects, and we integrate applications into clients’ existing infrastructure. Our clients range from small agencies to large multinational corporations. We excel at what we do, we work to the very highest standards and all of our staff take great pride in their work.

We are 10 years old and have had considerable success. As a result of our continuing growth, we are looking to find people to join our technical staff in our Ottawa office.

Your Challenge:

RealDecoy is seeking to add new client-facing software engineers to its team. The developer role will be fast paced from the moment you start; you will be learning new ways of working with the opportunity to learn new technologies, and you will be collaborating with a variety of clients to ensure that we provide the best possible service to them. You will be responsible for implementing web sites and web applications using Java and related technologies. You will have the opportunity to work on concurrent projects with other professional developers, technical leads, project managers and planners. You will be expected to keep current of new and emerging techniques, understand when and how they can be applied to projects and assist in documenting trusted best practices. Typically, you will be required to:

• Assist in designing the deployment architecture for web-based applications.
• Perform program modifications following detailed technical specifications and resolve programming problems.
• Creating detailed technical specifications and resolving programming problems.
• Create test scenarios and perform unit testing of programming changes.
• Maintain a solid understanding of technical environments for web applications keeping abreast of new functions and changes that may impact the implementation of client projects.
• Provide time estimates for various aspects of development.
• Provide other development support as required and consistent with your current skill set (HTML markup, etc).

Travel: minimal travel will be required for this position.

As the Ideal Candidate, you will have:

• Troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and follow specifications.
• Experience with source control systems (SVN).
• Ability to juggle several projects at once.
• Experience in the following:
  • Java Servlets
  • JSP
  • JDBC
  • SQL, and associated normalization & optimization techniques
  • HTML / JavaScript / CSS
• Experience with Tomcat application server
• Experience working with object oriented application design for the web.
• University degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

It would be great if you also had:

• Struts
• Eclipse
• Other application servers: WebSphere etc.
• Hibernate, or any other persistence tool
• ORM tools.
• Working with threaded application models & concurrent systems.
• Other programming languages.
• SOAP and web services implementation.
• MSSQL, Access, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or other DB platforms.
• Drupal, Wordpress and other mid to enterprise level Content Management Systems.
